San Francisco, July 1, 2011 — The Industrial Designers Society of America presented NewDealDesign with two silver Industrial Designers Excellence Awards today. The Wellsense “M.A.P” UI won silver in Interactive Product Experiences and Sifteo Cubes won silver in the Entertainment Product Category. In addition to these awards, NewDeal was honored with five finalists in this year’s competition. These awards mark 10 years of IDEA winning for NewDealDesign and the first award win for its Experience Design Team. With this announcement and five IDEA wins last year, including ‘Best In Show’, NewDealDesign cements itself in the top three most winning firms over the last five years.
The IDEA program is considered by many as the ‘Oscars’ of design competitions and this year’s competition was no different, receiving a record breaking 2,000 entries, the most in its 31 year history. “The rigor of selecting the best of over 2,000 entries culminated in three days of intense dialogue and debate that was stimulating and rewarding for the 20 expert jurors—we are proud of the work we have chosen to represent the best from our profession,” said IDEA’s Jury Chair Davin Stowell.
The M.A.P.™ System is the first ever bedside pressure mapping system. “The M.A.P. System is designed to help caregivers stop problems before they begin by guiding them through proactively repositioning patients based on visual data,” said Mitch Steiner, President of Wellsense. This system represents a breakthrough in patient care as effective and routine offloading of pressure is the only way to reduce or eliminate the incidence of pressure ulcers.
Sifteo Cubes are an ingenious new way for people of all ages to learn and play; bite-sized computers that are smart, connected and aware. Sifteo founder, David Merrell, describes Cubes as “The alternative game system for truly hands-on play,” and designer Gadi Amit likened them to “a cross between a Domino, a block, and a pebble — in other words, gamer gold.”
In addition to these awards NewDealDesign had their design work for Sifteo Cubes Packaging, Fitbit ‘Jewel Box’ Packaging, Fitbit ‘Flower’ UI and The M.A.P System chosen as finalists in this year’s IDEA competition.
